Union Academy Women’s Track and Field Wins NHSAA 3A State Championship

The Union Academy Women’s Track and Field team won the NCHSAA 3A State Championship on May 14 at North Carolina A&T University.

Led by Coaches Ashley Grant, Samantha Brodt, and Phillip Morris, the team finished in first place overall and broke several school records.

Brihanna Ashcraft was named the meet's Most Valuable Athlete after winning state titles in the 100m, 200m, and 400m, setting two individual school records.

The 4x800m relay team of Ana Leon, Peyton St. Clair, Emma Glumac, and Abby Isaacs also won a state championship, finishing with a new school record time of 10:06.74.

Additionally, Peyton St. Clair received the Sportsmanship Award for the meet. St. Clair broke two school records with her third-place finishes in both hurdle events.

Union Academy State Results:

Women’s 1st Place (State Champions):

  • 100m: Brihanna Ashcraft – 12.08 (School Record)
  • 200m: Brihanna Ashcraft – 25.00 (School Record)
  • 400m: Brihanna Ashcraft – 58.79
  • 4x800m Relay: Ana Leon, Peyton St. Clair, Emma Glumac, Abby Isaacs – 10:06.74 (School Record)

Women’s 2nd Place:

  • 4x400m Relay: Carissa Ambrose, Brihanna Ashcraft, Selena Espinosa, Skyler Brodt – 4:16.43 (School Record)

Women’s 3rd Place:

  • Triple Jump: Kennedy Ware – 32-8.50
  • 100m Hurdles: Peyton St. Clair – 16.98 (School Record)
  • 300m Hurdles: Peyton St. Clair – 48.13 (School Record)

The Union Academy Men’s team also had a strong showing at the state meet finishing 4th with three top-three finishes:

Men’s 2nd Place:

  • 1600m: Yariel Rodriguez – 4:36.16
  • 3200m: Yariel Rodriguez – 9:50.39

Men’s 3rd Place:

  • 4x800m Relay: Trevor Mills, Yariel Rodriguez, Ethan Williams, Preston Mills – 8:29.27
