Union Academy 4-H Livestock Skillathon Team Sweeps Competition in Smithfield

Union Academy’s 4-H Livestock Skillathon Team earned a clean sweep at the Sheep and Goat Roundup held in Smithfield, NC this past weekend, dominating both the senior and junior divisions.

June 20, 2025 - Smithfield, NC – Union Academy’s 4-H Livestock Skillathon Team earned a clean sweep at the Sheep and Goat Roundup held in Smithfield, NC this past weekend, dominating both the senior and junior divisions.

The event, which brings together some of the most knowledgeable youth in livestock care, tested participants on topics such as breed identification, feed and equipment knowledge, quality assurance, and meat evaluation.

Union Academy students delivered outstanding results:

Senior Division – Individual Results:
1st Place: Aubrey Mekus
2nd Place: Lacie Alexander
3rd Place: Lindsay Van Art
4th Place: Greyson Rouse

Junior Division – Individual Results:
1st Place: Colton Alexander

“We are incredibly proud of our students for their hard work, dedication, and mastery of livestock science,” said Union Academy advisor Michael Alexander. “Their strong showing is a reflection of both their passion and the commitment of our agricultural education program.”

The team’s success at the Roundup highlights the continued excellence of Union Academy students in agricultural leadership and hands-on learning.
