Women's Golf Conference Champions
The Union Academy Women’s Golf Team ended regular season play by winning the Yadkin Valley conference tournament held at Red Bridge Golf Club. Sophomore Katie Kobera placed first with a score of 84 and was also named the YVC Player of the Year.
The team tied with Greystone Day and North Stanly for first place in the regular season finishing 5-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference.
Coach Cheyanne Nash stated, “This is a great team that understands the importance of working hard both individually and as a team. I am very proud of this win; however, we are now looking ahead and focusing on playing well at Regionals to qualify for states.”
Katie said, “Winning was so surreal! My game and mindset has improved from this time last year. I'm so thankful for my family! They have always had my back and I wouldn't be here without them. I am also thankful for Coach Nash and my teammates. I love how we all look forward to practice.”
The Lady Cardinals qualified for Regionals as a team and individually with a total score of 282. They will travel to Cedarbrook Country Club in Elkin, NC next week to compete and hopefully advance to the state championship.
Qualifying team members are Katie Kobera (So.), Marissa Matthews (Jr.), Kendall Leak (So.).
“This win is broadening my golf path. It's also helping me learn life skills, such as focusing on myself and learning to sharpen my skills at anything I do. This win and this team win is one of my biggest accomplishments,” added Katie.
