UA 4-H Skillathon Team Sweeps State Cattlemen’s Conference

Monroe, NC - February 25, 2023 - The Union Academy 4-H Livestock Skillathon Team swept the categories in both middle and high school at the NC State Cattlemen’s Conference held in Hickory, North Carolina. Union Academy competed against students from across the state in a livestock knowledge competition. 

 

Students had to correctly identify breeds of beef cattle, equipment, feeds and meats along with testing their overall knowledge on quality assurance, marketing, reproduction, nutrition, and animal health through a comprehensive exam. 

 

Union Academy scored the top three placings in both the Middle School and High School Divisions. In the Middle School or (Intermediate Division), Lacie Alexander won 1st place overall followed by Colton Alexander (2nd place overall) and Maci Keeter (3rd place overall). In the High School or (Senior Division), Kaylee Keeter won 1st place overall followed by Lindsay Van Art (2nd place overall) and Aubrey Mekus (3rd place overall). 

 

The team is led by UA’s agriculture teacher, Michael Alexander.
