Women's Swim Wins Regional Championship

Greensboro, NC - Saturday, February 4, 2023 - The Union Academy Women’s Swim Team won the 1A/2A Central Regional Championship for the second year in a row. A total of 12 swimmers and 3 alternates for the men’s and women’s teams qualified at the regional event and will compete in the NCHSAA state championship on Thursday, February 9 at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary. 

The Regional Medalists (placing 1st-3rd) are

  • Kyle Roy 2nd in 100 Butterfly and 3rd in 50 Free

  • Maddi Geyer 1st in 200 IM and 1st 500 Free

  • Kayda Geyer 1st in 100 Breaststroke and 3rd in 100 Butterfly

  • Mia Matthews 2nd in 200 Free and 2nd 100 Free

  • Amelia Lawrence 2nd in 500 Free

  • 200 Medley Relay 2nd (A. Lawrence, K.Geyer, M. Geyer, and Mia Matthews)

  • 400 Free Relay 2nd (Mia Matthews, K. Geyer, B. Ferreira, and M. Geyer) 

Additional State qualifiers are Gracie Williams in 500 Free, Women’s 200 Free Relay (B. Ferreira, Marissa Matthews, L. Love and G. Williams), Josh Townsend in 100 Breastroke, Men's 200 Medley Relay (A. Nichols, J. Townsend, K. Roy, and S. Sandock) and guys 400 Free Relay (K. Roy, S. Sandock, A. Nichols, and J. Townsend).
