School Based Therapy FAQs

Once this referral is received by the School Based Therapist, the parent will be contacted to give consent for a mental health screening. If the screening indicates symptoms, a Diagnostic Assessment that includes a Medical & Psychological History will be completed. If the student meets Diagnostic & Statistical Manual- 5 criteria for a mental health disorder, they will be admitted into the School Based Therapy Program and an Individual Plan of Care will be developed and followed to provide services. 

The student has a previous mental health diagnosis or the student is currently exhibiting signs and symptoms of a mental illness and these symptoms are interfering with his or her ability to function in the school setting. 

A student can be referred to the school-based therapy program by a parent, teacher, or the school counselor.   **If the student doesn't have a history of mental health treatment and/or a mental diagnosis a referral to the school counselor should occur first**
