Mrs. Henson - Fourth Grade

Welcome to 4th Grade!

I am so excited to work with you and your child this year!  I am a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and I am certified in grades K-6 and Special Education.  This is my sixteenth year at Union Academy and 32nd year teaching. (I began teaching when I was 10.). I have a range of experience from kindergarten through fourth grade and also in the EC department.  This is my fourth year in fourth grade at Union Academy.

Our theme for the year will be:  "Adventure Awaits:  Enjoy the Journey!"  I am looking forward to a year with less restrictions, where we can explore and work cooperatively with partners and small groups again!.  It is my goal this year to help students look for opportunities to help one another, to explore together, and enjoy our fourth grade journey.  My teaching philosophy includes creating a warm and inviting environment where students feel safe to take chances and strive to accomplish new goals.  I believe in providing a consistent and encouraging classroom where students are challenged to push themselves to reach their fullest potential.

My husband, Kevin, and I have three children. My youngest daughter, Jessie graduated from UA three years ago.  While at Union Academy, she was afforded great educational opportunities along with character development.  She was also a member of the state championship soccer team. I look forward to partnering with you as we watch your child grow educationally, in character, and in community involvement.

Welcome to Mrs. Brooks who joins us at UA as an interventionist in 4th grade.
