Dear Parent,

I want to welcome you and your child into math class for the 2018 – 2019 school year.  I am excited about the opportunity to work with your child and help continue their education and understanding of mathematics.  I look forward to getting to know you and your student as we work together this year to ensure math success.

This is my fourteenth year teaching at U.A.  I have 2 children. My son, Ian, is a 2012 Union Academy graduate. My daughter, Morgan, is a 2015 Union Academy graduate.

Student grades will be based on effort, class participation, math notebook, skill progression, pop-quizzes / tests and homework assignments.  I grade homework assignments for completeness and accuracy.  Work must be shown.

My grading system is as follows:
40% - In class work / Homework
20% – Quizzes / Notebook check
40% – Tests

Late Work policy.  Student will have 2 days to make up any missed work from an absence with no penalty.  Late work will be accepted up to 5 days after due date.  Work will be penalized 10 points per day.  After 5 days late work will be assigned a grade of zero (0).

Tutoring is every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30.

The only requirement for my class is a 1 inch to keep notes and paper in and a 1 1/2 inch binder to keep student work in.  The students will need two sections, one for notes and one for warm up.  The students will be taking math notes, writing definitions and key concepts in this notebook.    The students will also be required to bring five sharpened pencils (no pens), paper, text book, reading book and agenda to each class.

Students and parents may ask for current grades at any time.   I encourage your involvement in your child’s education and will welcome any comments or concerns you have during the year. If you have any questions, please contact me via e-mail or by phone. You can also reach me on my personal cell phone 704-668-8139.
