Dear Parent,

I want to welcome you and your child into math class for the 2020 – 2021 school year.  I am excited about the opportunity to work with your child and help continue their education and understanding of mathematics.  I look forward to getting to know you and your student as we work together this year to ensure math success.

This is my sixteenth year teaching at U.A.  I have 2 children. My son, Ian, is a 2012 Union Academy graduate. My daughter, Morgan, is a 2015 Union Academy graduate. My Son-in-Law, Wyatt, is a 2014 Union Academy graduate.

Student grades will be based on effort, class participation, math notebook, skill progression, pop-quizzes / tests and homework assignments.  I grade homework assignments for completeness and accuracy.  Work must be shown.

My grading system is as follows:  This may change
25% - In class work (formative and discussions)
30% – Quests (Quizzes and Test)
45% – Lesson Checks (formative)

Late Work policy.  Follow guidelines in handbook

Tutoring is every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 to 4:30, and every morning from 7:15 - 7:50

The only requirement for my class is a 1 inch to keep notes and paper in and a 1 1/2 inch binder to keep student work in and 2 cow journals for math, and just a binder with loose leaf paper in Science.  The students will be taking math notes, writing definitions and key concepts in the separate cow journals.    The students will also be required to bring five sharpened pencils (no pens), paper, text book, reading book and agenda to each class.  We will have to be diligent this year to not share materials.

Students and parents may ask for current grades at any time.   I encourage your involvement in your child’s education and will welcome any comments or concerns you have during the year. If you have any questions, please contact me via e-mail or by phone.
