This week in Media:

All classes are reading books about Fairy Tales and rotating
between stations in media class.

  • Kindergartners are reading The Three Little Pigs and working in stations as well as checking out one book (books are due in 7 school days). Stations include building a house out of clay to withstand their 'wind', and coloring and sequencing the three houses from their story.   They also made paper masks of one of the characters in Three Little Pigs.
  • First Graders are reading a different version of The Three Little Pigs, checking out 1 book and rotating between stations - - building a house out of clay and coloring the houses of the pigs. They also made paper masks of one of the characters in Three Little Pigs.
  • Second Graders are reading 2 versions of The Three Little Pigs and comparing and contrasting the stories.  Second Graders are checking out 2 books at a time. They also made paper masks of one of the characters in Three Little Pigs.
  • Third Graders are reading The Three Javelinas and learning about different habitats and how they are used as the setting of a story, as well as how to navigate the non-fiction section of the library.   Third graders are checking out 2 books at a time.
  • Fourth Graders are reading The Three Cajun Pigs, learning about different habitats and looking for cajun culture in the nonfiction section of the library.  Fourth graders are checking out 2 books at a time.

We also looked at Mrs. Mingledorff's favorite version of
The Three Little Pigs.  The title is
Trap 3 Little Pigs by Kyle Exum.

The kids liked it so much they requested a link:
The book can be purchased on Amazon.

Be sure to check back next week to see the new and fun ways
we are learning to love reading.

Emily Mingledorff is the Media Assistant and teacher for K-4th grade Media classes.  Mrs. Mingledorff has her B.A. in Communications from Trevecca Nazarene University and is a published co-writer and author.  Her favorite things about U.A are the elementary kids who walk through the doors and the school's emphasis on character.
