I am so excited to be working here at Union Academy! This is my tenth year teaching and my seventh year in fourth grade. I graduated with my Bachelors in Education from UNC-Charlotte in 2010 and have working in the school systems in various roles ever since. I have a couple of favorite quotes that really have inspired me and my philosophy of teaching. The first being, "If you do not learn the way I teach, I will teach the way you learn." I believe every child has the capacity to learn and it is my job to help them reach their full potential. This does not look the same in every child as we all learn in different ways. I try to incorporate hand-on and exploratory leaning as much as I can. We will be doing a lot of small group work and learning stations throughout the curriculum. Another quote that really speaks to me is from Thomas Edison, "I have not failed, I have just found 10,000 ways that do not work." I believe that mistakes are a learning opportunity and that they are a part of life. We can not allow mistakes to get the best of us. We learn from them and move forward.
My husband and I moved to the Union County area in 2011. We have a beautiful daughter named Ellie, one dog, two cats and chickens. We enjoy family outings to the parks and traveling to the mountains and beach. We love to go camping and one of our favorite outdoor activities is kayaking.
My classroom interventionist is named Nikki Young. She is also a coach here on campus. She works with the girl's basketball, track, and cross country teams. She is married and has 4 boys. They are a military family with Mrs. Young previously serving in the US Navy and her husband currently serving in the National Guard. Their family loves to go to the movies and attend sporting events.
