I am Brittain Storey and I am happy to be working with your children this year. I am a mother of a two lovely children and the wife of very kind man. I love tacos, and chocolate, watercolor painting, reading, animals, bugs ( not in my house if at all possible) and plants. Most of all, I love working with children. And I love working with struggling readers.
This is my forth year here at Union Academy. I previously taught at LaFayette Elementary in Harnett County, N.C.. There, I taught Kindergarten, First Grade, and Reading Recovery over the span of my 19 year career. My children attend school here at UA. My husband works at Wingate University, from which we both graduated. My post graduate degree is from Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC. Now, we live right down the road in Indian Trail with our two dogs.
a favorite poem of mine, by Wendell Berry.
Our Real Work:
It may be that when we no longer know what to do
we have come to our real work,
And when when we no longer know which way to go
we have come to our real journey.
The mind that is not baffled is not employed.
The impeded stream is the one that sings.
This year will be very different. This year has and will continue to challenge us. My goal is to support students and families as we continue to learn and grow and move forward during this unusual time. How that looks this year will be different from years past. That being said I am very excited about where this takes us. I am learning to teach in new ways. You are learning how to manage a difficult set of circumstances. Your child, the most adaptable of the three of us, is waiting to learn and trusting in us to help them get this done. We will work together for the children. I am looking forward to investing in their education. Thank you for letting us journey this year with your child.
