Mrs. Zarger - First Grade

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year!  My name is Mandy Zarger and I am going to be your child’s First Grade teacher.  I am very happy to be a part of the Union Academy family.  We are going to have a great school year!

Let me tell you a little about my teaching experiences and myself.  I have taught Kindergarten, First, and Second grades in three different states.  I am from a small town in Western New York where I went to SUNY Geneseo for my undergraduate teaching degree.  I began my teaching career in New York.  I moved to Virginia and I met my husband Chris. I taught in Virginia and received my Master’s Degree in Education during this time.  We moved to the Charlotte area in 2006 and I taught in Charlotte and at Rocky River Elementary in Union County.  This will be my 19th year of teaching and my fifth year at Union Academy!  I have two beautiful children, Lia and Logan.  My daughter Lia will be in ninth grade and my son Logan will be a fifth grader at UA.  I enjoy traveling, especially to see family and to the beach.  I love to watch baseball and football and to go running.  One of my favorite things is to read with kids.  Some day I’d love to write a children’s book.

My Classroom Interventionist is Vikki Thompson.  This is her fifth year as a classroom interventionist.  She has 4 children who all have attended Union Academy-daughters Tori and Mia who have graduated and sons Jonah, 11th grade, and Elijah, 5th grade.  She enjoys going to the beach, Carowinds, and to the mountains!  She has a dog named Teeka also!  She is excited to get to know your child as well!

We look forward to working with your child.  Your child will learn many new skills and strategies as a First Grader.  I will work hard to keep you updated about class information via newsletters or the website for our classroom.  Please feel free to contact me at any time at my school email at azarger@unionacademy.org or at the school telephone number, 704-238-8883, with questions or concerns regarding your child.
