Ms. Soldo - Sixth Grade

Welcome to My Page!
About me:
I am a mom of 3 little girls.  The oldest goes to Union Academy, the other two will when they get a little older.  My hobbies include arts and crafts, especially painting and drawing and building things out of recycled pallets.  I also enjoy playing and watching many sports.  My favorite sports to participate in are soccer and snowboarding. I even still play soccer in an adult recreational league on the weekends with my husband.  My daughters love to play soccer just like their parents.
I attended Pennsylvania State University where I majored in Secondary Education with a focus in English and Communications.  I moved to North Carolina less than a year after graduating and have been here for almost 8 years.  I have been teaching English Language Arts for 6 years.  The 2017-2018 school year was my first year at Union Academy.  I really enjoy teaching here so far and I look forward to many more years as a Cardinal!

Homework Guidelines:

Reading Log: One of the primary goals of ELA is to improve reading. The best way to do that is to practice. Students are expected to read every day for 20 minutes a day and keep track of reading on a reading log to be signed by parents daily and submitted once a week.

Article of the Week: Students may also be assigned an article of the week to improve reading of nonfiction passages. It will be provided on Monday and due by Friday. (These are not every week)

Other assignments: Other assignments will be kept to a minimum but may be given on occasion. These assignments will be posted on the whiteboard as well as Canvas and should be written into student agendas. Occasionally unfinished classwork may go home for completion due the following day.

Late-work Policy:
All work is expected to be turned in on time.  Any late work is subject to an immediate zero, but can be made up or submitted late with a penalty of 10% points per day late. No late work will be accepted within 2 weeks of the end of a marking period, due to time constraints for grading.  Work that is late due to absences will follow the school policies.
 ELA Updates:
Keep up with what is going on in ELA by visiting sixthgrademondayminutes.com or by visiting our Canvas page.
This year UA will be utilizing Canvas as a means of communication, course work, and a variety of other purposes. Please see the links below for more information.
