Update to Mask Requirements

Governor Cooper made updates to the mask requirements for K-12 students and staff today in his briefing (July 21). Please read the attached letter from Mr. Marshall outlining UA's plan for the start of school.

Manivanh Selected as High School Scholar All-American Player

Union Academy 2021 graduate, Mya Manivanh, has been selected as a High School Scholar All-American player by the United Soccer Coaches Association. This award recognizes players who have excelled on the field as well as in the classroom. All the winners have at least a 3.75 GPA and have been recognized for their excellence on the field.

Zoe Zander Awarded NCTE Leadership Award

Union Academy teacher, Zöe Zander, has been recognized with an Early Career Educator of Color Leadership Award from NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English). Zander, a high school English teacher, was one of 12 educators in their first five years of teaching to be selected for the award.

Welcome MS Principal Mr. Broome and MS Assistant Principal Mrs. Byrd

Union Academy is pleased to welcome Mr. Scott Broome as middle school principal and Mrs. Setrina Byrd as middle school assistant principal/curriculum coordinator. Beginning this coming year, Mr. Justin Frashier will expand his administrative responsibilities as the K-8 assistant principal and continue to serve as head varsity football coach.

Union Academy FFA Wins Second State Championship

Monroe, NC (May 20, 2021) - The Union Academy FFA Meats Evaluation Team competed in the NC State FFA Meat Evaluation Career Development Events. Students/teams (from across the state) had to identify over 100 retail cuts of beef, lamb and pork. They also had to place a class of ribeye steaks based on both quality and yield. Finally, students had to take a comprehensive exam on Meat Storage and Handling, Meat Cookery Methods, Live Animal Care and Handling, Meat Purchasing, and Legislative History.

Union Academy awarded National School of Character for the second time by Character.org

Monroe, NC (May 11, 2021) - Character.org announced today that Union Academy (UA) has once again earned recognition as a National School of Character. Character.org, a national advocate and leader for character development in schools and communities, certified 47 schools and 1 district as National Schools of Character. UA was the only school in North Carolina to earn the national distinction.

Now accepting applications for the 2021-22 lottery.

Severe Weather Alert

March 18, 2021 will be a Remote Learning Day for ALL K-12 students due to the prediction of severe weather in our area. All other activities are canceled.
