Students must take Spanish 1 and 2 in order to obtain a Union Academy diploma. Students have the option to continue taking Spanish 3,4 and 5 with honors credits. Additionally, students can take any 2 years of a foreign language offered online to complete this requirement.
We also offer a path for Heritage students who speak Spanish at home. They can take Spanish Heritage 1 and 2 as semester classes, then take Spanish 4 honors to complete the 2 year requirement.

Spanish department uses the following categories for grades. All graded work will be posted on CANVAS.
Spanish department uses a “Standards –Based” grading system for skills . This scale is accordance to the HS learning framework and the North Carolina Standards . This means that students will be graded on how well they can perform a skill of the language in a qualitative way (see rubric below). As we learn a new structures students will have repetitive practice and feedback in order to achieve the expected level of proficiency.
