Ms. Kristen Oliver joins Union Academy with over seven years of experience providing therapy to children, adolescents, and families. Ms. Oliver will work in conjunction with Union Academy’s five licensed school counselors to serve all students in need.

Union Academy Supports the Mental Health of StudentsUnion Academy is committed to reaching the needs of the whole child- academically, socially, and emotionally. Through a partnership with Atrium Health, students have access to a fully licensed School-Based Therapist.

What happens after a student is referred to the school based therapy program?
Once this referral is received by the School Based Therapist, the parent will be contacted to give consent for a mental health screening. If the screening indicates symptoms, a Diagnostic Assessment that includes a Medical & Psychological History will be completed. If the student meets Diagnostic & Statistical Manual- 5 criteria for a mental health disorder, they will be admitted into the School Based Therapy Program and an Individual Plan of Care will be developed and followed to provide services.

When is a referral to the school based therapy program appropriate?
The student has a previous mental health diagnosis or the student is currently exhibiting signs and symptoms of a mental illness and these symptoms are interfering with his or her ability to function in the school setting.

Who can refer a student to the school based therapy program?
A student can be referred to the school-based therapy program by a parent, teacher, or the school counselor.**If the student doesn't have a history of mental health treatment and/or a mental diagnosis a referral to the school counselor should occur first**
