Character Education
Character Education is an integral part of our charter and mission and is one of the most important aspects of our educational program. How we treat each other is as important as anything else we set out to teach or accomplish at Union Academy. From Kindergarten through High School, we focus on eight primary character traits: Responsibility, Initiative, Adaptability, Compassion, Respect, Optimism, Trustworthiness, and Perseverance.
Union Academy makes positive character a part of our culture easily noticed as soon as you walk through the doors of our school. To make it a part of our culture, character traits are integrated into our school environment in a variety of age appropriate ways. They are incorporated into the academic curriculum at every level; from reading selections to history discussions. We also strive to acknowledge excellence in character through monthly student awards and daily positive reinforcements.
Our first line of discipline is to remind students of positive character traits prior to issuing consequences. One of the most important aspects of teaching these traits is providing good role models in our school, including teachers, parents and administrators. Working together we influence the behavior of our students, thereby making a difference in our communities.
