BORROWED CLOTHING
In case of accidents, the Lower Campus has a small supply of extra clothing for students. If your child comes home with borrowed clothing, please launder the item(s) and return to the school the following day.
BUS TRANSPORTATION
For a fee, transportation will be provided between campuses. This service is offered to families with students on both campuses or to faculty with children on the other campus. Seats will be assigned on first come first served basis.
Transportation to and from sporting events may be provided by UA parents. UA must have permission from the parent or guardian for their child to ride to the event with someone other than his or her own parent or guardian.
When possible, transportation will be provided by the UA team bus. Athletes must return on the bus unless they are signed out by the parent or guardian.
CARPOOL PROCEDURES
Lower School Campus:
Morning Drop-Off begins at 7:30 AM.
· Enter the parking lot single file.
· Drive up to the loading or unloading area.
· Allow the staff member to assist the child out of the car.
· If you need to park and enter the buildings, please be sure to park in the designated side lot only. NEVER drive behind gym or cafeteria buildings to drop off.
· Please do not park in the front lot as these lanes will now be used for easier bus entrance to campus.
Afternoon Pick-Up: The Lower School Campus uses the following “ferry boat” procedure for afternoon carpool.
Waiting Area:
- Make a windshield sign with your student numbers on one side and a “smiley face” on the flip side. The “smiley face” will be turned over to indicate that your children are safely loaded in your car.
- We will be loading five rows of seven cars (35 cars) at a time. All other cars are to stay back behind the cones, which indicate the waiting area.
- Do not exit your car to get your children when you are in the waiting area.
Loading Area:
- All cars MUST turn off their engines in the loading area to ensure that cars do not move while children are walking out to the cars.
- The children will be called to the staging area. To ensure safety, you must get out of your vehicle and escort your child into your car.
- After your car is loaded, please flip your number sign to the “smiley face.”
- When all cars are safely loaded, we will motion cars to start their engines and exit at one time. Please do not drive out of the loading area unless directed to by a staff member.
- Please do not exit the loading area through the middle entrance/exit driveway.
- If for some reason we do not have your child promptly ready to be loaded, we will motion you to the bus pick-up area in front of the Central Office sign so that we do not hold up the line.
- Please note that the carpool lane closest to the Old Charlotte Highway is designated for parents picking up Upper School Campus bus riders.
Upper School Campus
Morning Drop-Off begins at 7:30 AM.
- Cars should pull up in single file and drop off students on the sidewalk in front of the building.
- Students should enter the building through the side doors into the multi-purpose room (Grades 5-8), the doors at the opposite end of the building (Grades 5-8), or the doors to the Student Affairs Building (Grades 9-12).
Afternoon Pick-Up
- Cars should pull into the driveway in two rows, and drivers should remain in their vehicles.
- The row closest to the sidewalk will be designated for cars picking up lower school children who are arriving on the bus.
- Grades 9-12 will be waiting along the front walk for their rides.
- Grades 5-6 will be waiting in designated locations throughout the building for their names to be called, and they will then proceed to their rides.
- Grades 7-8 will be waiting in the multi-purpose room for their names to be called, and they will then proceed to their rides.
- Once all of the cars along the sidewalk are loaded, they will be directed out.
- All cars should remain in park until directed to move by carpool staff.
- If there is a delay loading a car, that car will be directed into the parking lot in order to prevent setbacks for other drivers.
- All cars must come through the line, as safety issues arise when drivers park and expect students to travel into the busy parking lot unattended.
Late Pick-up Policy at Both Campuses
- Visitors are discouraged between 2:50-3:20 PM in order to help keep the hallways clear. If you must pick up your child before dismissal time for excused appointments, please do so before 2:45 PM, or you will be asked to go through regular carpool procedures to page your child.
- All students must be picked up by 3:30pm each day. The Teen Connection (Upper Campus) and Kids Incorporated (Lower Campus) After School program is here to provide an after school care service for a fee. Students not picked up by 3:30pm (12:30pm on early dismissal days) will be taken to the Teen Connection at the Upper Campus or to the Kidz Incorporated area at the Lower Campus and charged a late fee of $1.00 per minute until the student is picked up. As with all public schools, Union Academy will contact the proper authorities if fees are not paid and if repeated violations occur. The emergency after school care can not be used more than three times during the school year without prior approval from the Teen Connection Director. All participating students in any UA sponsored activity such as enrichment, intramural sports, after school clubs or activities must be picked up by the designated time each day.
